WORLAND — Worland Family, Career and Community Leaders of America chapter is raising money for clean water in a community in sub-Saharan Africa.

According to FCCLA member McKenna Mickelson, on Wednesday, the chapter hosted Hat Day at the high school. Donations to the clean water cause were accepted, and those who donated were able to wear a hat throughout the school day, as well as receive a bracelet promoting the effort.

Mickelson said, “All the money we make will go toward the project and will be donated to the fund.”

Anyone outside of WHS and wanting to help FCCLA and their humanity project may go to http://bit.ly/2EWOuys to donate and find out more information.

As of Wednesday morning, $44 had been raised through the website. Total raised at the school were not available at press time.

The funds raised will go toward The Water Project. According to The Water Project website, “The Water Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization unlocking human potential by providing reliable water projects to communities in sub-Saharan Africa who suffer needlessly from a lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation.

“For ten years, we have been helping communities gain access to clean, safe water by providing training, expertise and financial support for water project construction through our staff and implementing partners.”

According to the WHS FCCLA donation page, Mickelson wrote, “Dirty water impacts health, education, women and income. Providing a reliable and safe water source allows communities to thrive.

“The Water Project provides access to safe and reliable water across sub-Saharan Africa. Together, our support can end the water crisis and restore hope, one community at a time.

“The coolest part? We’ll all get to see our impact. Every gift is directly linked to a specific water project and community. We’ll receive updates including photos and stories, maps and more.

“Lives change when communities gain access to clean water. Let’s experience it together. Make a donation to my fundraising campaign today.”

An anonymous donor, who donated $10 wrote, “This is a really nice thing Worland FCCLA is doing. So proud to see how far we’ve come. Donating really is the least we can all do.”
