WORLAND – Starting February, Worland Senior Center started holding a Jam Session the second Monday of each month. The Jam Session is held at the senior center at 6:30 p.m. This Monday night, super nachos are to be served with a cost of $5.

Dan Garnett is part of the group who turns it up at the jam sessions. The group plays a variety of music with their covers and renditions, including acoustic, country, gospel, rock and roll and more.

“We’ve been jamming out together for about three to four years,” Garnett said. “Our venue actually started out at the Presbyterian church with sort of a bluegrass deal.”

“We started out with the senior center about two months ago. And they decided to use this as an opportunity to raise some money, so we get to help them out there. We moved to the senior center in hopes of increasing our membership, provide a more public venue for the participants and give the community a chance to come and enjoy our local artists,” Garnett said.

Senior Center Executive Director Wendy Fredricks has started advertising this event to bring more of an outcome to their sessions. The money raised through this fundraiser goes toward matching the several grants that the senior center has.

“We have several different grant matches,” Fredricks explained. “The money goes toward whatever grant needs it.”

Some of the center’s grants include transportation, congregate, home-delivered meals, in-home services, and activities.

Every month the food served is changed up, so the meals won’t be repetitive throughout the monthly sessions.

“This idea originated due to the fact that Dan was looking for some space to play with his group. We let him use up some of our space, then decided to make a fundraiser out of it,” Fredricks said.

Other people who “jam” are Anton Lehman, Bob Camposii, Charlie Boson, Chase Smith, Ed Capen, Greg Prows, Jerry Kysar, John Brooks, John Olin, Mike Donnell, Shaun Nicklas, Terry Cook, Virgil Bailey, Dave and Doris Todd, and, of course, Dan Garnett.
