Local agencies seek Kansas attempted-murder suspect

April 25, 2018

THERMOPOLIS – Two attempted murder suspects and one unidentified accomplice made an appearance in Hot Springs County this week, as law enforcement arrested two of the men on Monday, while one remains at large, possibly in the local area.

The Riverton Police Department, U.S. Marshals Service and Fremont County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cody Breeden, 24 of Abilene, Kansas, on Monday at 5:20 p.m. in the Riverton Walmart parking lot, according to the Riverton Police Department’s social media.

Cody and Jeremy Breeden, 28 also of Abilene, are wanted in connection with the March 29 shooting of 19-year-old Trenton Penn of Minneapolis, at a motel in Junction City, Kansas.

Later on Tuesday, the Thermopolis Police Department issued a warning to be on the lookout for Jeremy Breeden, 28 of Abilene, Kansas, in conjunction with an investigation by the U.S. Marshals Service. The Thermopolis Police encouraged residents to lock cars and homes, and not to approach the subject, as he could be armed and dangerous.

The social media post immediately spawned false sightings of the suspect in Hot Springs and Washakie counties, although no evidence of Breeden’s whereabouts was discovered.

“At this time we have no credible indication as to where the suspect is,” noted Washakie County Sheriff Steve Rakness.

Representatives from The Thermopolis Police Department and Hot Springs County Sheriff’s Office could not be reached for comment.

Anyone with information on Jeremy Breeden is requested to call the Thermopolis Police Department at (307) 864-3114 or Washakie County Sheriff’s Office at (307) 347-2242.
