TEN SLEEP – During the May Ten Sleep School Board meeting Monday evening after an almost 2.5-hour executive (closed) session, the board accepted the resignations of several employees and approved the hiring of several more.

The board approved the resignations of Ten Sleep School agriculture and business teacher Jarred Bower, Ten Sleep School fourth- and fifth-grade teacher Ross Hauptman, who also received teacher of the year, and Ten Sleep School secretary Angela Munger.

The board also welcomed Levi Collins, originally from Lovell, as the new principal, Kate Decker, from Worland, as the new high school English teacher and Mike Adams, from Wheatland, as the new music teacher for the 2018-2019 school year.

Before accepting Ross Hauptman’s resignation, Hauptman was awarded the teacher of the year honor. “It’s my honor and privilege to present the 2017-2018 teacher of the year award to Ross Hauptman. You’ve been a great teacher and we were proud to have you here, we are very disappointed that you have chosen to leave, but we wish you the best,” Ten Sleep School Superintendent Jimmy Phelps said.

In other business, the board continued to work on the concealed carry policy and concurrent application. After working on the policy and application the board shelved the many different extras to the policy for the next meeting. The board also approved the paving of the Ten Sleep School teacherage road with the assistance of the Town of Ten Sleep.

Phelps told the board that the Town of Ten Sleep will be paving the city streets and that the town had offered to pave the road in front of the teacherage for $31,000. At the time the proposal was issued, Phelps declined the offer.

“Mayor [Jack] Haggerty approached me after school today, said that the city council is offering to pay half the cost. I think that’s a pretty good deal. We can approach the School Facilities Department, I believe they will allow us to do that out of major maintenance,” Phelps said.

The board approved the paving on the condition that the money required was approved to come out of major maintenance.
