Ten Sleep rodeo royalty announced

WORLAND – Saturday, May 19, Ten Sleep Rodeo Association hosted the Ten Sleep rodeo royalty contests to choose the queen and princess for this year.

WORLAND – Saturday, May 19, Ten Sleep Rodeo Association hosted the Ten Sleep rodeo royalty contests to choose the queen and princess for this year.

The contest was open from girls age 21 and under. Ages 13 and under were eligable to compete for the title of princess, while ages 14 and older were also eligable to compete for queen. The contest required them to show off their skills in horsemanship and being interviewed. There were four contestants.


Girls ran a figure-eight pattern on horseback, as well as had an interview with the three judges. Runner-ups of the competition received the honor of being named queen or princess attendants.

According to competition supervisor Kendra Werner, Anna Powell was crowned queen. Powell is 15 and is going to be a sophomore in high school this coming fall. Her parents, Chuck and Cris Powell, owners of Ten Sleep Veterinarian service.


Powell’s attendant will be 14 year old Bella Lungren. Lungren will also be a sophomore in high school. She’s a resident from Greybull. Her parents are Cathy Bulken and Matt Lungren.

Ten Sleep Rodeo’s princess is Belle Starbuck. Starbuck is 9 and will be in the third grade. She’s from Ten Sleep, and her parents are Shane and Addie Starbuck.

Princess attendant is Tessa McClain of Worland. McClain is 10 and is going to be in fourth grade.

The duties for the Ten Sleep rodeo royalty will be to be in the grand entry of the rodeos, including the one on July 4 – 5. The rodeo queen also has the responsibility of going to rodeos around the Big Horn Basin and carrying flags during entries, according to Werner.
