The Potter Butte fire south of Worland burned approximately 900 acres Thursday night and Friday. Full containment was expected Friday night.

UPDATE: The 2,448 acre Potter Butte Fire south of Worland is now 100% contained, per the BLM at noon Saturday. The change in acreage is due to more accurate mapping. It burned on BLM, state and private lands.

According to Bureau of Land Management Bighorn/Wind River District spokesperson Sarah Beckwith, the fire is located south of Zimmerman Butte near Potter Butte about 19 miles south of Wotrland and 13 miles east of Kirby. It is burning in cheatgrass and sagebrush.

Beckwith said Friday morning that "they hope to have full containment by the end of shift today. [The fire] really laid down today so it's not growing."

She said fire crews from Worland, Ten Sleep, Hot Springs County, BLM, U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs and even an engine from Oklahoma were on scene.
