Firefighters respond to small fire in wilderness

GREYBULL — Bighorn National Forest firefighters responded to a wildfire in the Cloud Peak Wilderness on Aug. 24.

A 1/8-acre fire, likely caused by lightning was located ¼-mile east of Granite Lake in the Paint Rock Creek drainage. The fire had burned almost all the available fuels in the area, was smoldering and was surrounded by rock, according to a press release issued Saturday night by the Bighorn National Forest Office in Sheridan. The fire is adjacent to the hiking trail in this location – Trail #038.
