Final January meeting waived

January 17, 2019

WORLAND – Washakie County Commissioners Chairman Fred Frandson, Aaron Anderson and Terry Wolf will forego the final county commission meeting on Jan. 22 to make preparations to attend the 2019 Wyoming County Commissioners Association Legislative Conference in Cheyenne, starting Jan 23.

The three-day, annual event gives county commissioners from across the state the opportunity to review legislation and vote to recommend, with a 70 percent majority vote.

“Legislators look at the [commissioners] recommendations when they decide to vote,” said Chairman Frandson, who will be attending for the vote next Thursday.

Held at Little America, the conference will feature an introduction by Governor Mark Gordon, and introduction to bylaws and guidelines for new commissioners, advanced courses for returning commissioners, and guest speakers including State Auditor Kristi Racines, State Treasurer Curt Meier, and Secretary of State Ed Buchanan.

Topics of discussion and education include open meetings and records, broadband options for county use and appointing boards for various county functions.

Legislation under consideration include House Bill 0014, which would establish a new uniform state time and exempt Wyoming from daylight saving time, House Bill 0037, which stipulates that county clerks and coroners must be residents of the county for a least one year before running for office, House Bill 0110, which requires medical professionals to reports all gunshot and stab wounds to law enforcement and House Bill 0066, which would establish a 5 percent statewide lodging sales tax.

Washakie County already charges 4 percent to visitors for lodging, with revenues going toward the county Visitors Council for advertising and tourism initiatives.
