WORLAND – Representatives from Shopko verified to the Northern Wyoming Daily News on Thursday that the Worland retailer will stay open, and pharmacy operations will continue, in light of the company filing for bankruptcy on Wednesday, and announced that the Powell Shopko will be closing its pharmacy.

It was announced in December that the Greybull and Thermopolis stores will be closing altogether, Greybull in March, and Thermopolis in April.

“We will remain open in Worland and committed to serving our customers with the same high-quality goods and services that they expect. In the interim, the Shopko pharmacy will continue to deliver the high-quality products and services to which you’re accustomed. Shopko will notify pharmacy customers when a pharmacy will close and to where their prescriptions have been transferred. A complete list of pharmacies that have been closed, or will close, can be found on the restructuring website at info.shopko.com,” said Michelle Hansen, director of public relations for the company.

Powell Shopko users have been advised that Powell Drugs will be filling their prescriptions, even though a buyer has not been found for the pharmacy.

According to a Wisconsin court filing earlier this month, lawyers for McKesson Corp. claim that Shopko has not paid for more than $67 million in pharmaceuticals.

Most recently, Shopko has been in the process of selling it’s pharmacy business to Kroger and Hy-vee, as part of a restructuring plan.

Shopko is owned by an affiliate of Sun Capital Partners, Inc., a leading private investment firm focused on leverage buyouts, equity, debt and other investments. Shopko was founded in 1962 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
