WORLAND - Students from multiple schools around the state head to state meet in Riverton today (Thursday).
Twenty students from Worland High School will be competing. These students are Kevin Abercrombie in public forum debate, Kaitlyn Bostrom in original oratory, Nick Bower in duo interpretation, Cody Butterfield in program oral interpretation (POI), Rachael Carver in cross examination debate, Caylin Deniz in Lincoln-Douglas debate and informative, Zoe Fernandez in cross examination debate and congressional debate, Tate Green in cross examination, Jade Hefenieder in duo interpretation, Sullie-Ann Keuntjes in duo interpretation and poetry, Dash Lloyd in duo interpretation, Madeline Martinson in cross examination debate and congressional debate, Nathaniel Nelson in duo interpretation and humorous, Michael Neufer in Lincoln-Douglas debate, Elioniah Olson in public forum debate, Tanner Stott in cross examination debate, Kim Sumida in cross examination debate and original oratory, Raeth Tolman in duo interpretation and humorous, Amber Vaughn in duo interpretation and Jack Vines in duo interpretation and poetry.
"We are hoping to finish in the top three for 3A," Coach Rick Dorn said. "We've had some success this year and we'd like to see that continue at state. I am very proud of all of these kids We had more competition for spots than before, so these 20 kids are doing amazing work!"
The state speech and debate meet takes place at Riverton High School Thursday through Saturday. Thursday, it starts at 10 a.m. Friday, the tournament begins at 8 a.m. and Saturday events start at 8 a.m.
GREYBULL
The team recently saw a handful of victories at the Greybull tournament on Feb. 23. Nathaniel Nelson and Jade Hefenieder took first in duo with Jack Vines and Sullie-Ann Keuntjes following up with second. Elionah Olson and Kevin Abercrombie took third place in public forum debate. Jack Vines took second place in poetry. Cody Butterfield took first in POI.
