Ten Sleep track ready to go for first meet of the season

March 28, 2019

TEN SLEEP - The Ten Sleep High School track and field team begins their season this Saturday in Buffalo with the Bison Invitational at Buffalo High School.

"We start off in Buffalo [Saturday] and I feel like this season is going to go quick," said TSHS track and field coach Desiree Egger.

Ten Sleep has a total of 14 athletes out this year and with a good blend of experienced athletes and new blood, Egger believes the potential for this group is very high.

Seniors Kinley Erickson and Kelli Holiday will be among the team's leaders this season.

"Kelli's been a leader for us for a long time and has naturally stepped into that. Kinley Erickson and Kelli have both been really good leaders," said Egger.

Erickson and Holiday should also be among the Lady Pioneers top point scorers this season, while Boe Nichols and Zayne Cooper will likely lead the Pioneers.

"Kinley will be pretty good for us in the throwing events. She's done well for us in both shot and disc. Boe Nichols will be someone to watch out for, he did well last year but I think he's come on even stronger so far this year. Lindsey [Holiday], between her and Kelli they're going to have them all covered. I think Kelli wants to do more of the sprints this year and Lindsey will go with those distance events.

Elizabeth Lungren is going to be a good little sprinter for us and do hurdles for us too. I think our boy relay teams are going to surprise some people and they'll be fun to watch," said Egger.

The past two seasons the Lady Pioneers have finished in the top three at the 1A State meet. In 2017 they came in third and in 2018 finished second. A state championship is always the goal but another top three finish is within sights for the Lady Pioneers.

For the Pioneers, finishing better than their 13th placing last season is the motivation, which is why they are shooting for a top-five finish in 2019.

"We should be pretty good at scoring points this year. Since we have more kids we should be able to score more than we did last year," said Egger. "It will be really tough to get first but finishing in the top three is the plan. Our boys might not finish in the top three but can score in the top five if things break our way."
