TEN SLEEP – All five bids the Ten Sleep School Board received for the construction of the new vocational building were rejected by the board Monday evening due to the fact that all bids were at least about $135,000 over budget.

Arete Design Group, architect Karen Kelly, out of Sheridan explained to the board via telephone that she wasn’t expecting that the bids would be so high and that she had contacted the two lowest bidders, Diamond Point Construction out of Buffalo and Fox General Construction out of Ten Sleep, to figure out ways to lower the cost of construction.

Kelly and the two companies worked together to offer the board a list of changes that would lower the cost.

The board went over the list of changes, asking questions of not only Kelly but also Chad Fox, owner of Fox General Construction.

After much discussion the board decided to offer the project up for bid again, with many of the changes on the list offered. If the bids are once again too high the board may choose to wait another year before putting the project up for bid again.

In other business the board approved the bid of Whited Floor Surfacing Company, out of Casper to refinish the gym floor during the summer break.

Ten Sleep Mayor Jack Haggerty spoke to the board about the board’s concern of speeding on Cottonwood Street in Ten Sleep. Haggerty informed the board that he is looking into radar speed monitoring signs with recording to help not only protect the children as they are going to and from school, but also to protect the rest of the community.
