Dane Weaver

Ten Sleep – Ten Sleep social studies teacher and 2018-2019 Ten Sleep teacher of the year, Dane Weaver is one of the three finalists for Wyoming state teacher of the year.

"We are very proud of him. He is an outstanding teacher, he just completed his third year with us coming from Jackson, Tennessee, in a district of about 14,000 students and had about a 1,000 teachers and he was their teacher of the year, the year before he came here. We are very fortunate to have him as a teacher, he is highly respected by the students, parents and other staff members," Ten Sleep Superintendent Jimmy Phelps stated.

Weaver explained some of the things he has had to do to make it so far in the Wyoming teacher of the year competition. "Once you are in the top five you have an interview and two weeks ago I interviewed to get into the top three. They called me this week to let me know that I had made it to the top three. From here what I have to do is video a lesson and then send it into the WDE (Wyoming

Department of Education) and that's how they select from the top three," Weaver said.

The Wyoming teacher of the year is expected to be announced by the WDE around mid-October.

While Weaver is thrilled with making it into the top three, he is more excited about teaching another year in Ten Sleep.

"It's awesome, it's awesome being in Ten Sleep anyway. It's obviously a huge honor, getting to be teacher of the year in Ten Sleep. To be honest with you I am more excited about being able to keep coming back to Ten Sleep year after year, which is what I am always real excited for. I appreciate the staff I work with, it's just an amazing place to be. We are really fortunate, I get to be here with my boys, year in and year out and work with the awesome students here at Ten Sleep and the awesome staff and so I am always excited. It's going to be an awesome school year," Weaver stated.
