Fair board discusses condensing entertainment for 2020 Washakie County Fair

October 17, 2019

WORLAND – The Washakie County Fair Board met on Monday night to talk about possibly condensing down the amount of days entertainment is available for the 2020 Washakie County Fair, as well as starting the entertainment earlier.

These discussions led to a general consensus of reducing entertainment nights down to three from six last year, as well as starting evening events earlier, but an official decision was not made on these potential changes.

Another discussion that went on was the possibility of fixing lights on top of the main building, and creating more lights to help get more light for the crowd during shows at night. Treasurer Marty Cross noted that the fair board is in one of its “best financial situations since he started on the board,” and the board can explore ways to get more lighting for nightly events.

One topic that was talked about was how to pay and distribute premium checks for FFA and 4-H kids that participated in the fair. It was determined that the checks would be available at the Extension office in the early part of November, and checks should be picked up before Dec. 2 at the latest.

An area of frustration with the board is communication with 4-H council, superintendents board and sales committee regarding responsibilities, as well as incidents that have happened at the fair, such as a superintendent watering down an animal prior to weigh in this year.

The fair board is looking to create an annual mandatory meeting(s) to talk to these boards to discuss expectations and responsibilities that come with the position.

Possible entertainments are being explored for a monster truck show, or a tractor pull, but no official decision has been made, as the fair board is also attempting to find sponsors for a larger event to be brought in.
