Samantha Lawton works to hand embroider a polo for the order that Mrs. Trippel's class received from the high school athletics teams during the fabrics and fashion class Thursday Oct. 17.

WORLAND – Worland High School students from Brenda Trippel's family and consumer science courses have helped out over the years by providing custom embroidering for different departments throughout Washakie County School District No. 1.

According to Trippel, different departments, such as sports teams and activities come to her and ask her class to make personally embroidered objects, and the respective department will pay the Family and Consumer Science group in order for Trippel to purchase more supplies for future projects such as thread or fabric.

"They pay us as if they were taking it to an actual embroidery shop," Trippel said.

The profits from the projects can also be provided to students if they qualify for a trip for a competition related to the classes.

Some of the projects that Trippel's classes have include 28 sweatshirts for the Battle of the Bighorn prizes nearly every year, 20 jackets for the girls swim team, towels for the boys swim team end of year celebration and personal embroidery for all of the bus drivers with their names on them.

The students in Trippel's classes learn about quality control, meeting deadlines and creating an invoice in order to make sure what you are charging your customer is enough to make a profit in each order. The main embroidery techniques they learn are how to hoop, how to mark, make sure it is marked correctly and how to work the machine to get the stitch out.
