Worland school board officers retain current positions

WORLAND – At the short pre-Christmas break school board meeting on Monday night, the Worland school board members voted to retain their current positions on the school board as they were last year.
Don Bryant was nominated and voted to remain as president, David Tommerup was voted on to remain vice president, Terri Logan was voted to remain clerk and Duane Whitlock was voted on to remain as the treasurer.
Superintendent David Nicholas and Business Manager Jack Stott gave an update regarding security at schools. The updates were focused on TAC*ONE training that has happened at the high school and middle school, as well as an update on the Raptor system which is set to start on Jan. 6 when the spring semester starts, an article regarding specific protocols for the system will be in the Dec. 26 and Jan. 2 editions of the paper.
Stott reported to the board that one of the boilers burned out at the pool, and the board approved a plan to replace both boilers at a cost of $150,000 to $200,000 which is able to be funded by major maintenance repairs. Approval to seal coat the asphalt this upcoming summer was approved, as well as upgrading some lighting around the district to LED lights.
The board held a discussion on policies 2.2 through 2.6, with those policies pertaining to birth certificates, boundaries/class size, child abuse, conduct away from school, and desks and lockers. This was strictly a review on the policies, there was no discussion regarding changes to the policies.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other business during the regularly scheduled board meeting Monday night, board members were approved to attend and represent the same boards that they attended this last year. David Tommerup will report on the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and transportation, Dean DuPree will reported on technology/curriculum and insurance/wellness, Sarah Lungren will report on technology/curriculum and policy. Terri Logan will report on salary and insurance/wellness, Duane Whitlock will report on salary, recreation and buildings and grounds, Don Bryant will help report on transportation, and Joe Bishop will report on policy and buildings and grounds.
Coaches who were approved to be hired in to new positions, some pending certification were Duane Riedel for seventh grade boys basketball, and Ryan Utterback and Jeremiah Dobson were hired as middle school assistant track coaches.
Middle school coaches who were approved to be rehired for the 2020 fall season were Michael Montgomery and Rob Woffinden for seventh grade football, Matt Mueller and Jeremiah Dobson for eighth grade football, Charity Glanz and Kari Keller for seventh grade volleyball, Vanessa Caballero as an assistant for eighth grade volleyball with the head coaching position vacant, and Tim Warren and Rachel Cruz for cross country.
High school coaches approved for next fall include football assistant coaches Ryan Utterback, who will be stepping back from the head coaching position to an assistant role leaving it vacant at this time. He will be an assistant with Josh Garcia, Aaron Abel and Patrick Sweeney. Volleyball will retain head coach Brittany Miller along with assistants Katherine Stuckey and Sid Pyer. Cross-country will be led by head coach Tanya Kienlen and assistant Brenna Abel. Girls swimming will be led by Mike Blissett and assisted by Danielle Warren, with golf led by Chad Rose.
The AP US History class was approved for a trip to Washington, D.C. on November 14-21, 2020, and spring March 20-27, 2021. Students are only permitted to attend one of these trips.
Classified staff who were approved during the meeting were Nicole Hellyer for Central Office Administrative Assistant, Jennifer Groesbeck as a full time paraprofessional and Perla Martinez as a part-time paraprofessional in life skills at East Side Elementary.
Meeting dates were approved for the fourth Monday of each month for the year of 2020.
The board went into executive session to end the night in order to deliver the superintendent evaluation.
