Homecoming and hall of fame festivities set for next week

October 1, 2020

WORLAND – After many activities were canceled or delayed last spring such as prom and graduation, Worland High School will be hosting its first large celebration since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when homecoming week kicks off next Monday.

Worland High School Student Council representative Ashlyn Erickson came before the Washakie County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees on Monday night to discuss the different ideas that are being implemented or discussed regarding homecoming festivities.

Erickson said that the council is discussing the possibility of having the homecoming pep rally outside in Warrior Stadium, while also floating the idea of a socially-distanced dance in the stadium on Saturday night rather than a dance inside. The school is unable to have a dance indoors due to the state COVID-19 guidelines currently in place.

Floats will be decorated for the parade that is set tentatively for 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The student council decided to not decorate hallways during the week, they have instead decided to paint windows and do sidewalk art instead.

“We are doing our best to try to continue on the homecoming traditions that we can,” Worland High School Principal Wade Sanford said. “I am excited we are going to be able to have a parade, we need to get our final idea to Dr. (Ed) Zimmerman but he has been open to that and we are appreciative of him. Our goal from the beginning was to have a homecoming just because we do not want to cancel anything else we are tired of that.”

HALL OF FAME

The second Warrior Hall of Fame this year includes Dr. Michael Day, James Fassler, Doug Reachard, Kathy Van Heule Romsa and Don Wheeler.

The hall of fame festivities will be Thursday night with a meet and greet at the Worland Middle School at 5:30 followed by a dinner at the Washakie Museum & Cultural Center with an 80-guest limit. The inductees will then be in the parade the following day, with other activities still to be determined.
