October 28, 2021

WORLAND – With spooky season upon us and bats, witches and ghouls in the air, it’s time to start celebrating Halloween. This year, with the spooky holiday falling on a Sunday, the celebrations will be happening all weekend long.

Thermopolis kicks things off on this Thursday, (today) with Moonlight Madness in the streets of downtown Thermopolis. This starts with Mason tacos from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Masonic hall in Thermopolis. A costume contest sponsored by Dr. Vernon and Rachel Miller will begin at 6 p.m. on Broadway in front of town hall with several age groups. Shailee Harvey Photography will be hosting a Spooktacular Costume Contest located at Kirby Creek Mercantile. Downtown stores will be offering trick-or-treating.

Tomorrow (Friday Oct. 29) at the Ten Sleep Rodeo Grounds, the Ten Sleep Recreation District will be hosting a Drive-In Movie Theatre. They will be playing Addams Family 2 at 7 p.m. and Quiet Place 2 at 9 p.m.

At the Worland Aquatic Center there will be a “Dive-In” movie from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The center will be showing Casper. There will be popcorn, root beer floats and caramel apples. There’s a small admission fee.

The Fraternal Order of the Eagles kicks things off Saturday in Worland with a Halloween Carnival. The carnival will include a cakewalk, ring toss and spooky games. It takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge. Hot dogs and chips will be served.

Also on Saturday in Worland from noon to 2 p.m. is the Monster Mash. The Monster Mash is an elementary school event happening at the Worland Middle School to celebrate Halloween. There will be carnival games, candy, a costume contest and a haunted house put on by the Worland High School drama students.

The Worland-Ten Sleep Chamber of Commerce will be hosting their own Halloween celebration with a trunk-or-treat on Saturday, Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the parking lot between the library and City Hall, as well as on North Ninth and Big Horn. The trunk-or-treat is open to the community. Those interested in bringing their vehicle to participate should call Ruth at the Chamber of Commerce. There is limited space. The trunk-or-treat has been going on for more than 10 years.

Going on at the same time will be trick-or-treating in downtown Worland. Multiple businesses will be participating in handing out candy to those in costume. Businesses may still choose to participate in trick-or-treating on Halloween night, as well.

Ten Sleep has the first of two trunk-or-treats on Saturday. Saturday’s event will be held at Ten Sleep Vista Park from 2 to 5 p.m. Weather permitting, hay rides are a possibility.

On Sunday, Oct. 31, Ten Sleep will be holding a Community School Organization (CSO) will be hosting a Halloween event, their 11th annual trunk-or-treat celebration in Ten Sleep Vista Park. Cars and trucks can line up on Second St. and around the park so that the kids can trick-or-treat from your “trunk” rather than your house. Those participating are encouraged to decorate their trunk or vehicle, as awards will be provided.

Traditional trick-or-treating will still take place around town.

Trunk-or-treating will begin at 5 p.m. around the park. They will also be having a pumpkin carving contest. Those wanting to participate should bring their carved pumpkins to the park to be judged. Tea lights will be provided. The CSO will also be providing hot cocoa and cookies.

The Ten Sleep senior class will be selling a prepaid meal of a hamburger, coleslaw, fresh cut French fries and a drink. Reserved meals will be available from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening in the Pavilion at Ten Sleep Vista Park.
