WORLAND - LeeAnn Alcaraz has returned home to hopefully finish her Postal Service career as the Worland postmaster.

Alcaraz started her career in 1998 in Worland and she worked for 15 years as a letter carrier. She then worked in Lander for six years. She worked as a supervisor in Gillette and then Casper and in August 2021 came back to Worland as officer in charge. In March of this year she was promoted to postmaster.

Asked why she chose a career with the Postal Service, Alcaraz said, "It was a career that was available and I was able to raise my daughters (as a letter carrier)."

She said getting the promotion as the Worland postmaster "feels good, like coming home. I hope to retire in four years and stay here."

While it feels like coming home, Alcaraz said the Worland Post Office has changed since she last worked here. Worland used to be the hub for the 824 zip codes.

As the postmaster, Alcaraz said she is in charge of the hiring process, filling routes. "I'm responsible for the whole operation at the local level, including stamp accountability."

Alcaraz met members of the public during a community appreciation barbecue on Friday. She said it was the employees' way of saying thank you to the community for their continued support.

She said if there is anyone looking for employment, the Postal Service provides a good career, adding there are positions available in Worland.

Alcaraz has raised two daughters and has one granddaughter.
