WORLAND – A ceremony to honor the names decorating the Worland Memory Tree will be held tonight, Thursday, Dec. 8 in the conference room of the Worland Community Center Complex at 7 p.m.

The Memory Tree is an annual fundraising event put on by supporters and athletes of Washakie County Special Olympics. For a $5 donation, patrons can assign the name of a loved one, living or nonliving, to be written on an ornament. These ornaments are then hung on the Memory Tree, a large fir located on the southeast corner of Pioneer Square.

Order forms for the ornaments are available at Rocky Mountain Framing, Bryant Funeral Home, Big Horn Federal Bank and O.W.L. Unlimited, and will be accepted up until the ceremony begins at 7 p.m. For donations to be made to Special Olympics, writing “Washakie County” on the memo line designates the funds to be used locally. Any questions about the order forms or other donations can be directed to Yvonne Bryant at 388-0685.

All those who ordered an ornament are then invited to bring one guest to attend the ceremony, where all the names that decorate the tree will be read aloud. Event organizer Yvonne Bryant said, “The Memory Tree is a unique way to let someone know you care.”

Included in the ceremony will be a message of hope given by Pastor Chuck Powell, as well as live music by The Sugar Beats, accompanied by Jacque Baldwin. The Sugar Beats are a vocal group whose members are Tim Trippel, Mike Healy, Mike Bundren, Dan Frederick, Chuck Glade, Gary Pfeiffer, Landis Benson and Joel Baldwin.

At the conclusion of this program, attendees are encouraged to visit and enjoy light refreshments.

Bryant said “We hope that this little program can bring a little peace to people in remembering those who have gone on before us and yet are still so fresh in our memories that it hurts.”
