Monte Lee Harnden

Monte Lee Harnden, 69, passed away surrounded by his family at his home in Worland, Wyoming on February 7, 2023 from Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Born in Laramie, Wyoming on April 28, 1953, Monte was the youngest of Chuck and Vonnie (Martin) Harnden's two children. Monte's life was one filled with faith, family and friends.

Growing up in Greybull, Wyoming, Monte was an active and adventurous youth. He was involved in the Boy Scouts of America, earning his Eagle Scout distinction and attributing many of his core values to the foundational lessons and experiences he had in the scouts.


In 1971 Monte graduated from Greybull High School and went on to a long career with Marathon Pipeline Company in 1974. Starting his career on the pipeline construction crew, he held many positions at the company before retiring as a Senior Operations Technician in 2014. He fondly recounted his time with the company and often spoke of the great men he worked with as extended family.


Monte was passionate about his faith and devoted his life to learning, understanding and living out God's Word. In life, Monte indulged many of his interests including traveling, caving, skiing, sculpting, fly-fishing and connecting with those he most loved.

Monte was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Vonnie and his grandson, Caleb Harnden.

Survivors include his loving wife, Liz Harnden of Worland; sons, Dr. Chris (Alisa) Harnden of Steamboat, Colorado and Tyler (Hannah) Harnden of Windsor, Colorado; step-children, Jim (Sheila) Prell, Amber (Doug) Green and Joe (Christine) Prell all of Newcastle, Wyoming; brother Robbin (Billie) Harnden of Glenrock, Wyoming and 4 grandchildren: Noah, Riley, Jayden, Briella.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held later this spring.
