Carol Elaine (Bunnell) Allred

Carol Elaine (Bunnell) Allred passed away peacefully in Rifle, Colorado, Friday, April 14th at the age of 87. Born December 27th, 1935, the first born to Orval (Doc) and Mildred Bunnell, and sister to Janet (Lovelace- Grand Junction, CO), Gene Bunnell (deceased), and Tom Bunnell (deceased). At the time of Carol's birth, Doc was a student finishing his veterinary studies in Greely, Colorado. He moved his family to Afton, where he worked a short time in a veterinary practice, and then relocated and established his clinic in Worland.


Carol was also the first born grandchild to DA & Sadie (Taylor) Bunnell who gifted her a horse named Rowdy that remained her friend and companion for many years.

Carol met Stan Allred (Ten Sleep) at the WY State Fair in Douglas, and they married August 27, 1951. Their union was graced with the birth of four children: Terri (Craft), Jeffrey Allred (deceased), Jay Allred (Sheridan), and Jennifer (Bartels--Rifle,CO). Stan moved the family from Billings, to Utah, to California where they settled in 1962 after the completion of his Master's and teaching certification. Carol also secured her Master's and teaching credentials in 1972, and began teaching in the elementary and junior high schools (San Bernardino Unified School District) until her retirement in 1997.

Carol was an avid traveler making lone treks in her Chrysler as far north as Alaska through Northern California, Washington, Oregon, and British Columbia. Carol's final retirement was in Worland where she returned to care for her ailing parents in their final years, and managed their trailer park on Russell Ave. While in Worland, she substitute taught, drove Senior Center bus, and worked at the Northern Wyoming Daily News for a short stint. Upon their passing she sold the home and park, and purchased her own on Grace, near the hospital.

In 2015 she relocated to Grand Junction to be near her daughter Jennifer and her family. Carol will be cremated; A small gathering will be held May 11th at the Worland Senior Center Conference Room, 11:00 a.m.
