Mildred Kathleen "Kathy" Kunz

May 25, 2023

Mildred Kathleen Kunz was reunited with her husband and infant son, Dougie and brothers when she passed away on May 21, 2023, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.

Kathy was born in Soda Springs, Idaho, the oldest of four children born to Charles Ernest and Helen (Christopherson) Martinson. As the oldest, she began her lifelong journey of being a great nurturer and "mother" to her siblings: Alan, Helen and Kent.

She married Larry Kunz in 1964, bringing her first son, Dallas, into the family in 1965. The couple later divorced, but Kathy decided to stay with the Kunz family by marrying Larry's half-brother, Darrell, in 1968. She and Darrell brought about the next three sons, John in 1969, Joe in 1974 and little Dougie in 1979. Little Dougie passed away suddenly, which broke the family's heart. Kathy would often speak of Dougie or "our Little Ooties" and could feel his presence throughout her remaining life.

Darrell died in 1995. Kathy never remarried, instead she put her energy into keeping busy, working for various businesses around Worland and again, "helping to raise and nurture" her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, multitudes of nieces and nephews, as well as "adopted" friends of her sons and grandchildren.

Whenever possible, Kathy would travel far and wide to wherever her family lived. "To see her boys!" was the trailing phrase as she headed out to Minnesota, Michigan and even Florida.

Her heart was full as she loved her family and friends completely, caring for them and praying for them continuously.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrell and son, Douglas.

Kathy is survived by her loving sons, Dallas (Amber) Kunz of Logan, New Mexico, John (Lesley) Kunz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Joe (Tammy) Kunz of Worland; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Martinson of Cheyenne and sister-in-law, Ann Martinson of Worland.

Memorial services will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, May 26, 2023 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Bishop David Page officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Worland Senior Center and sent to PO Box 524, Worland, WY 82401.
