Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Joan Christina Propp

Joan Propp, a lifelong resident of Worland, Wyoming, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2024 at age 91. Born in Worland on Sept 29, 1932, she was the fifth of eleven children of George Joshua and Rose Aline (Bosch) Ribble. Joan grew up on the family farm north of Worland, working hard with her brothers Clinton and Franklin to keep the farm running after their father’s sudden death in 1947.

She met Theodore Henry Propp when he moved to Worland after WWII to help his sister and brother-in-law, Harry and Leila Strauch, on their nearby farm. They married on January 14, 1952, and continued to farm in the Worland area.

Farming was Joan’s life and she loved setting irrigation water every morning, especially when she could do so with her grandson Steve. Joan was well known for driving her beet truck each harvest season and did so into her 80s. Many suggested that, after she retired from driving, her truck should be bronzed and displayed at the sugar factory yard.

Joan’s grandfather, Matthias Bosch, was a founding member of Zion Lutheran Evangelical Church, where she was very active. She taught Sunday School, baked countless cookies, prepared vats of scalloped potatoes and made dozens of cabbage burgers and angel food cakes for Church events. She also served for many years in the Women’s Guild alongside her best friend, Clarice Michel.

She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandson Matthew Propp and eight siblings: Pearl Ribble, Clinton Ribble, Laura Ribble Fontaine, Lucille Ribble Demorest, Mary Lou Ribble McRann, George Ribble, Florence Ribble Kitchel and Richard Ribble.

Joan is survived by her children: Ted Propp, Jr (Kathy Hecht) of Worland WY, Sue (Ray) Conover of Douglas WY, Peggy (Ed) Jennings of Denver CO and Sally Propp of Sheridan WY. She is also survived by her brother Franklin Ribble of Lubbock TX and her sister Jessie Saunders of Billings MT. Joan leaves behind four grandchildren including Steve (Kellie) Propp, Victor (Stephanie) Conover, Casey (Tamaran) Conover and Samantha (Jesse) Stinson, as well as seven great-grandchildren.
