Worland can expect a busy upcoming weekend, as the community prepares numerous events to bring in the holiday spirit. FESTIVAL OF TREES To kick off the weekend, Pinnacle Bank will host the 37th annual Festival of Trees, starting at 6 p.m. on Friday. Dec. 1 in the Worland Community Center. Washakie Prevention Coalition (WPC) attended the Washakie County Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 21 to share their updates. Coalition members Sheri Gunderson, Katie Kirby and Lila Jolley spoke about how the coalition is working to expand its opportunities for involvement for teenagers and parents in the area. Sally Patricia Garcia, 68, passed away at the Washakie Medical Center in Worland, Wyoming on Nov. 23, 2023. She was born in Toppenish, Washington on Oct. 26, 1955. Cremation has taken place and services are planned for a later date.... Full story
Frances “Yvonne” Wiltsey, a beloved wife, mother, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully at her home in Worland, Wyoming on November 23, 2023, at the age of 83. Yvonne lived a life rich in love, family, and creativity. She was born in Greybull, Wyoming on December 4, 1939, to Henry Edward Sr. and Frances Margueriete (Beckner) Hartman. Yvonne spent her younger years in Greybull, Wyoming before moving to Casper, Wyoming where she graduated in 1957. Yvonne married the love of her life, Elmer Wiltsey on April 27, 1957. Worland High School’s Speech and Debate team has competed in two meets already this year, and according to Coach Rick Dorn they have shown promise at both. Dorn is joined again this season by Assistant Coach Emily Myers. He said, “In the early season, we’re not too worried about results. We want kids to get familiar with their material; finding new pieces that work, start learning them, cutting them as needed, all that stuff. Hot Springs County School District No. 1 Business Manager Jessica Benefiel detailed her plan to change the funding source for the construction of the district’s teacherage project during the board meeting Nov. 14. A group of pickleball players addressed the Worland City Council to see if additional courts could be created in Worland parks.
