WORLAND - Two Worland FCCLA members recently returned from their National Competition in Washington, D.C. at the National FCCLA Convention. Laurece Angal and Isaabella Munoz earned a silver medal in Life Event Planning, according to advisor Brenda Trippel.

In addition to competing, Angal and Munoz had a full week of activities where they joined nearly 7,000 FCCLA members from all across the nation. They participated in the FCCLA Leadership Academy where they honed their leadership skills, heard from keynote speakers, and helped celebrate FCCLA's 70th birthday Trippel said.

While at the convention, they benefitted from the leadership provided by the 2014-2015 national officers, including Connor Jones of Burlington, Wyoming. As a national officer, Jones is the first Wyomingite elected in 20 years. The Wyoming delegation was especially excited when Nathan Taylor from Mountain View, Wyoming, was elected to the 2015-2016 National Officer Team, according to Trippel.

During their time in D.C., Angal and Munoz were able to partake in some of the many opportunities afforded in the nation's capitol. Along with their chapter advisor, Brenda Trippel, they toured the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials, the Vietnam and World War II memorials, the Holocaust Museum, the National Zoo and several of the Smithsonian Museums, according to Trippel.

Highlights of the trip included seeing the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, all on the Fourth of July. From the National Mall they were able to view the fireworks display above the silhouette of the Washington Monument, according to Trippel.

Angal said she her favorite parts of the trip were visiting the Air and Space Museum where she was able to see many of the actual space vehicles.

Munoz mentioned that she was especially impressed with seeing the genuine "Star Spangled Banner" and learning the story behind the composition of the national anthem.

As part of the Wyoming FCCLA delegation, Angal and Munoz were also able to meet with the Wyoming senators, Mike Enzi and John Barrasso.

Both Angal and Munoz want to thank all who helped to support their efforts to raise the necessary funds for this memorable trip.

Trippel said, "They represented Worland well during their time in Washington D.C. at the FCCLA national convention and appreciate the opportunity to have had this amazing experience."
