New minister at Worland Church of Christ

WORLAND — Worland’s Church of Christ welcomed a new minister in June.

Troy Woolery said his first Sunday with the church was June 14. The Worland church is his first full-time preaching position, he said in an interview earlier this week.

Woolery grew up in the Church of Christ in Perry, Okla. “I served in about any capacity except elder,” Woolery said, including teaching, preaching and singing.

“I always wanted to consider life in the ministry,” Woolery said. He worked with his father in their electric sales and service business. He said traveling a four-state area for the company is where he really began his life in the ministry, listening to people and helping people.

He then began Bear Valley Bible Institute in Granby, Colo., graduated in May with a bachelor’s degree in theology. While attending Bear Valley he began looking for churches and saw Worland’s Church of Christ in need of a minister.

Worland, he said, is a lot like Perry, Okla., in population and agriculture base. He and his wife Brenda came and visited the church in January. “We liked them and they liked us,” Woolery said.

The couple have moved to Worland with their youngest daughter Courtney who will be a junior this fall at Worland High School. They oldest daughter Tiffany is a recent Oklahoma State University graduate living in Denver, Colo., Their son Joshua is in the Marine Corps stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Woolery said the Church of Christ seeks “to teach and follow the Bible only. We’re here to minister and teach about the truth.”

Woolery has morning office hours at the church at 2801 Big Horn Avenue. He said he spends the afternoons visiting members. The church has about 50 members, he said.

The church has bible classes every Sunday at 9 a.m., followed by worship service at 10 a.m. Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. they have singing and devotions. On Wednesday nights at 7 p.m. Woolery has started a bible class on the book of James.
