Worland resident Ida T. Mercado, 81, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on August 22, 2015.

Ida was born on November 9, 1933 in Worland, a daughter of Nicolas and Lupe M. Rodriguez. At an early age she moved to Phoenix, AZ and then to San Jose, CA. She later returned to Worland where she had worked at various jobs including the Washakie Cleaners, Worland Laundry, Washakie Hotel and Maggie's Café.

In 1960 she met the love of her life, Gene Mercado. They were married on September 9, 1967. They were blessed with five wonderful children: Danny, Tina, Gary, Pam, and Valerie.

Ida's faith was very important to her – she was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and the Council of Catholic Women. One of her favorite things to do was to say the Rosary every morning before starting her day.

After her faith came her family. She was a beautiful devoted wife, and a loving mother & grandma. Ida was an amazing cook and she enjoyed cooking for family and friends.

She also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, listening to her music, going for drives, and spending time with loved ones.

Ida was a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary, and in her younger days was a member of the Las Cocineras Homemaker's Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her brothers Gene, Romeo, Rudy and Jess Rodriguez, and by her sisters Herky Rangel and Kate Trujillo.

Ida is survived by her husband Gene Mercado of Worland; by her five children: Dan (Mary McGuire) Mercado of San Jose, CA, Tina Rios of Worland, Gary Mercado of Worland, Pam (Sean) Stevick of Gillette, WY, and Valerie Mercado of Worland. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Adam Rios of Cheyenne, WY, David Rios of Seattle, WA, Kimberly, Cierra and Hailey Rios of Worland, WY, Elizabeth, Gracie and Joseph Mercado of San Jose, CA, Devon Mercado of Worland, WY and Vannessa Stevick of Gillette, WY and by her great grandchildren Bella Rios of Cheyenne, WY and Isaac Nunez of Worland.

Ida is also survived by her brothers Felix (Irma) Rodriguez of San Jose, CA and J.R. (Bea) Rodriguez of Tooele, UT, and by her sisters Margie Hernandez of Worland, WY and MaryLee Murillo Las Vegas, NV, and by numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary and vigil service will be held on Friday, Aug. 28th at 7:00 PM at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Aug. 29th at 10:00 AM at the Church. Rite of Committal will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.
