WORLAND – It was only fitting that in Worland's only home meet of the season, a senior came away with a win.

Chance Martello won the boys race for the Warriors, finishing in first place with a time of 17:19.66 which had him nearly seven seconds ahead of 4A Sheridan's Micah Sweeney in second place at 17:26.50.

"As the race started to progress it started getting better and better for me ... I'm really happy that I won. This is only the second year running for me and I'm a senior and I got to win on my home course," Martello said after the win Thursday. "The fact that we were here in Worland gave me this mindset like, 'I have to win.'

"It gave me a little bit more motivation."

Sophomore Jadon Swalstad had a 10th place finish with a time of 18:02.44 while Preston Harman finished in 22nd at 18:54.72, Tristan Warren in 26th at 19:15.84 and Caleb Truman in 32nd in 10:46.04 to round out the boys team which finished third overall.

A senior also led the girls as Allyson Klingler had a sixth place finish with a time of 21:24.00

Freshman Kelli Holiday finished close behind in eight place at 21:31.56.

Sydney Eckman placed 19th (23:35.72) and Brooke Seidel placed 27th (24:38.97) to round out the girls who also finished in third place as a team.

Thermopolis

Jules Ward had a first place finish once again to lead the girls (20:19.84), while Chandra Maddock finished 24th (24:12.53), Stacey Lewis 31st (25:33.06)and Liz Rhodes 36th (26:08.08).

For the boys, Kyler LaBoy finished 43rd (20:52.47) and Adam Hanson 46th (23:18.94) as both set personal records in the race.

"Our second miles were hurt. The kids did finish well today, but really in the middle of the race we were a little weak so that's definitely a part we're going to analyze and look at," Thermopolis coach Brenna Abel said Thursday.
