The 'Modern' Hospital: 1019 Coburn in Worland

WORLAND – Originally built in 1938 to offer Worland a "modern" hospital, 1019 Coburn is now home to the Washakie County Library.

Designed by Robert K. Fuller of Denver in 1938, the building was completed by Worland builder Ed Green of Green Brothers Construction in 1939. At a cost of $30,000, the hospital advertised "the best in modern technology, including fluoroscopes, X-ray equipment, and a comfortable viewing area for new fathers."

In 1963, the hospital relocated and the library moved its 17,000 books to the Coburn location on May 20. Today, the Washakie County Library operates out of the building, with the same basic floor plan of the hospital, complete with unrestored basement and stairwells.

In an effort to observe and document the physical history of Washakie County, the Daily News will feature a different historic property every week, usually on Friday.
