Sanitation, sewer increases on council agenda tonight

Ordinances No. 828 and 829 will increase rates if passed on third reading tonight

November 3, 2015

WORLAND — Worland City Council members will consider raising sewer and sanitation fees for the third and final time during tonight’s regularly scheduled meeting.

Ordinance No. 828, passed on second reading, will increase Worland residents’ garbage fees from $15 $25 per month. Commercial fees would increase from $18 to $28 per month. The original ordinance, passed on first reading, would have increased residential rates from $15 to $23.50 per month, but an amendment during last month’s meeting increased that to $25 per month.

Commercial fees were originally proposed to increase to $23.50 per month, but an amended version of the ordinance now raises commercial sanitation fees to $28 per month.

Ordinance No. 829 is also up for its third and final reading tonight. The ordinance will increase residential sewer fees from $20.30 per month to $26.49 per month.

The sanitation increase is in response to the Washakie County Solid Waste Disposal District establishing tipping fees at the Worland landfill and the sewer rate increase is in response to the state-mandated annual audit indicating a shortfall in the city’s sanitation fund.

Tonight’s meeting, which is open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
