Ten Sleep approves fiscal sponsorship for Nowoodstock

February 4, 2016

TEN SLEEP – Nowoodstock organizer Pat O’Brien addressed the Ten Sleep Town Council during the monthly council meeting Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., to request fiscal sponsorship for the 16th annual music festival. Nowoodstock has been hosted by the town of Ten Sleep since 2000, and traditionally features three days of musical acts, vendors, and food at the town park.

During the fiscal sponsorship process, O’Brien applies for a grant from the Wyoming Arts Council by mid-March of the year. The Arts Council reviews the grant requests in April, makes recommendations, and approves funding. The money is then distributed to the town, who then fiscally sponsors Nowoodstock and distributes the funds.

The funding is used to pay musical talent and book bands. At the end of the grant process, O’Brien submits a report to the Arts Council, outlining expenditures. The town approved the request, allowing O’Brien to request as much as $13,000 for this year’s festival, scheduled for Aug. 12-14.

Other business

In other council news, the town conducted the first reading of the new parking ordinance. Recreation vehicles and certain trailers will not be allowed to remain parked on the street for more than 48 hours, during months when snow removal is implemented.

In addition to the approval of payment for regular bills, the council approved the renewed liquor licenses for the Big Horn Bar, Crazy Woman Café, and Ten Sleep Saloon.

A new business permit was approved for Spring Creek Armory, a full-service gunsmith shop scheduled to open in the old bank building this spring.
