WORLAND – Worland High School art students are not only learning art in their art classes they are also learning to give back to the community. Throughout the school year art students create items to be used in charity events and as donations.

"I feel very strong about community service and helping out people who need it and appreciate it," Worland High School art teacher Pam Greek said.

In the first semester, the ceramic class created more than 100 ceramic bowls to be used in the "Souper Bowl" event Friday which benefits the Washakie County Special Olympics. "The students made five bowls each this year. They used to only make three but the "Souper Bowl" has become so popular that we needed to make more," Greek said.

The "Souper Bowl" will be held at the Worland High School from 4 – 9 p.m. on Friday during the Worland Warriors versus Buffalo Bison basketball game. Participants get to choose their bowl and eat as much as they want. "It's all you can eat with homemade soups, rolls and deserts donated by the local community," Washakie County Special Olympics coordinator/ director Yvonne Bryant said.

There will also be a penny raffle, raffling away gift baskets during half time of the game. "We will have chips that are numbered from one penny to $5 and you pick your chip out of a bag and that's what you pay for your raffle ticket. You must be present to win," Bryant said.

According to the sowy.org, "Special Olympics Wyoming provides a year round program of sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities."
