February 16, 2016

WORLAND – Worland High School will host the 34th annual “Worlando Beach Classic” Forensics Tournament in early March and is in need of volunteer judges.

The tournament is annually held at schools around the state of Wyoming and Worland High School has hosted the tournament several times already.

The tournament will take place March 4 and 5, and Rick Dorn, the speech coach, is asking interested community members to volunteer as judges. Volunteers will be needed March 4 from 12:45 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Worland Speech and Debate team has 24 members from various grade classes and though the team cannot compete in the tournament they are excited to help out and host this year’s tournament.

Dorn said food will be provided for judges and all judges need to volunteer is a high school diploma.

Judges can volunteer for any category in the tournament and those with busier schedules can volunteer in shifts, Dorn said.

Junior Dominic Damian said if he can get enough people together, he wants to make a breakfast of biscuits and gravy for the volunteer judges.

Anyone interested in being a volunteer judge can contact Rick Dorn at 307-431-8390.

There will be 12 rounds in a variety of speech categories and 45 judges are needed for each round.

Beyond the Tournament

“The season is going very well. We are very much in the top three in the state for 3A [school size classification],” Dorn said.

Some team members began practicing in November and the season began in December, Dorn said.

Alex Mulhall, a senior, has been placing high in all her categories and is best in the state for policy and impromptu speaking, Dorn said.

Damian said “The team is meshing a lot better this year than the last.”

Dorn said he has high hopes for the team.
