Worland's Kendall Wright takes a shot on goal while Casey Wassum looks on during Friday's match against Torrington at Worland High School. The Lady Warriors would go on to win 2-0.

WORLAND- The Worland Lady Warriors soccer team marched into the semifinals with two shutout victories Friday.

For their first game of the Pinnacle Challengers Cup the Lady Warriors faced off against the Newcastle Lady Dogies and won 4-0.

From start to finish Worland would impose their will and dictate the pace against Newcastle. The Lady Warriors were aggressive on both sides of the ball as offensively they were unrelenting, smoothly moving the ball around the field setting up numerous shots on goal.

"That's one of the strengths of this team, it's not about getting the ball to the best player and stand and watch. They move the ball around looking for the best possible shot regardless of who it is," said coach Danielle Warren.

Newcastle would even attempt to slow Worland down by packing as many defenders in the box but the Lady Warriors used excellent team work to navigate the tight spaces and get great shots on goal.

The Lady Warriors were also tremendous defensively as you could count the number of times on one hand the Lady Dogies even crossed into Worland territory.

Junior Hannah Ozmon scored two goals in the game, while sophomore Casey Wassum and senior Emily Keller added the other two.

The win against Newcastle pitted the Lady Warriors against the Torrington Lady Trailblazers.

Not only would Worland face a strong Torrington squad they'd also have to battle the elements. The wind, much like the Lady Warriors in their first game, was unyielding, with gusts up to 30 mph making the easiest passes sail or the strongest kicks hang in the air and travel only a few feet.

Even with unfavorable factors and a tough opponent, Worland ground it out. Two goals in the first half by senior Haley Schneider and Ozmon would be the match's only goals. There would be opportunities to score in the second half but the wind and Torrington's physical defense negated those shots on goal.

"Torrington was good defensively and would collapse well in front of their net," said coach Warren.

In the semifinals The Lady Warriors will play against Rock Springs on the High School West Field at 11:15 a.m.
