WORLAND- The R3 Coalition (Recycle, Reduce, Reuse), comprised of Washakie County agencies including the landfill district, Extension Office, Department of Homeland Security, Public Health, fire department, Conservation District and Weed and Pest, had a successful Hazardous Waste Collection Day, Saturday at the Washakie County Landfill.

The participating agencies and 37 volunteers received, 750 gallons of paint, 3,000 pounds of electronic waste such as computers, monitors, TV sets and cell phones, 1,100 gallons of used oil, 4,000 pounds of solid pesticides, 550 gallons of liquid pesticides, and 33 refrigerators and air conditioning units.

The collection lasted from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Clean Harbors took all of the aerosol products, while Safety Clean of Casper will transfer the collected oil byproducts, while Yellowstone E-Waste of Billings will receive all electronic parts for recycling. Paint collected was combined by color and donated to Habitat for Humanity in Powell, as in previous years. Jarrod Glanz with Washakie Weed and Pest noted that people are welcome to go to the landfill and take leftover paint if they need it, 185 gallons of which have been sorted by color.

The next hazardous waste recovery will be in May 2018.
