Ten Sleep's Allison Hampton keeps focus during the 1600-meter Saturday afternoon. Hampton finished third.

Casper- Burlington and Ten Sleep track teams while small in numbers had excellent outings at the state meet in Casper last weekend.

Burlington

Burlington Coach Ryan Olson was thrilled with his team's performance over the weekend, "As a small and young team, the kids really did a great job. We had a lot of personal records and underclassmen place ahead of upperclassmen. It was a great experience for this group and as a coaching staff we were excited for the kids."

Senior Zariah Tolman closed out her Husky career by winning her third straight pole vaulting championship. What's even more impressive is 10 months ago Tolman was in a motorcycle accident that required multiple surgeries and doubts about her ability to ever compete in athletics again. "How far she's come is incredible and a testament to how hard of a worker she is and her mental strength," said coach Olson.

With the way the season ended on a high note coach Olson is looking forward to watching the program grow, "We'll look to improve on how we finished this season. Going forward we have strong foundation to build on and we'll look to building our numbers, with the incoming junior high class."

Ten Sleep

There were only six Lady Pioneers to travel to Casper for the state meet and they came back with a fourth-place team trophy.

Led by freshmen Kelli Holiday who is now the reigning 1A champion in the 800-meter, 1600-meter and 3200-meter, and junior Allison Hampton who won the triple jump, the Ten Sleep girls track team went toe-to-toe with and even beat several schools with a larger number of athletes out. That fourth-place hardware was also a first for Ten Sleep track and field in 29 years.

The 4x400-relay team comprised of freshmen Lexie Boltz, Charity Starr, Kinley Erickson and Kelli Holiday sealed the fourth-place finish and only one point shy from third place.

Coach Andy Ray was ecstatic for the girls' success, "The coaching staff was extremely proud of a team of young ladies who sacrificed individual success for team success. These girls are something else and they're a fun group of kids."

"This season has been fun and it was the first time I've coached girls at the high school level, they listened and were willing to do what's best for the team. It's been a pleasure coaching coach kids who sacrifice and give maximum effort each and every day," added coach Ray.
