Four Warriors selected to All-State and All-Conference teams

June 3, 2016

WORLAND - Four players of the Worland Warrior soccer team were named to the All-Conference and All-State teams by the Wyoming Coaches Association.

The Warriors named to both teams were seniors Jacob Lamm, Kyle Lamb, Braedon Page and Jakob Schaeffer. For Lamm, Page and Schaeffer this is their second time being named to the All-State team.

Worland's four selections were tied for second most with Cody in the 3A West Conference. Jackson led all teams with six players named, while Powell had three and Star Valley one.

Jackson also led the All-State team with six selections, Worland and Buffalo had four players each, Torrington with three, Cody and Lander two and Douglas, Powell, Rawlins and Star Valley one each.

Miki Ericksen, Jorge Carmona, Gavin Weyrich and Quentin Fettig were 3A West All-Conference honorable mentions

Warriors coach Ron Overcast was proud of the accomplishments by his players, "This year was very, very tough, each team had good players left out. In my time coaching it's probably the most competitive pool of players I've seen. For us to fill four spots on both teams and for them to basically be unanimous selections is incredible and a tremendous honor from the opposing coaches."

"Braedon Page has only played soccer two years and for him to receive his second All-State selection shows how hard he's worked and the time he's put into improving his game. Jakob Schaeffer made a sacrifice by moving to the outside and it helped out the team immediately. The same thing for Kyle Lamb, he was willing to change positions the team needed him as a center back and we were better for it. Both guys embraced their new roles because it made the team better.

"Jacob Lamm was our anchor, lifeblood and great leader, he hustled for all 80 minutes played tough on offense and defense and just set an excellent example of how to play the game," said coach Overcast about his All-State selections.

Most of all, coach Overcast loved what these four selections represented, which was unselfish play and hard work will get you further.

He said, "Individual goals are good to have and you need them but they shouldn't supersede the team's needs. Soccer is a true team sport where you need everyone playing together. These four guys show sacrificing your game, embracing your role and working hard will get you the same awards but with the added benefit of being part of a good team. It's no surprise that the best teams always have the most players selected and at the end of the day that's what it is about, being the best team you possibly can."
