Emma, Mason are Wyoming's top newborn names

July 6, 2016

Many baby girls answering to Emma and baby boys named Mason are keeping their families busy with both chosen most often as newborn names in 2015 across Wyoming, according to the Wyoming Department of Health’s Vital Statistics Services program.

Emma moved up to the lead after being the second most popular state name last year, followed by Harper, Olivia, Amelia and Evelyn. Amelia and Evelyn were not included in last year’s top five listing.

For boys, the name Mason jumped up to the top spot after being in a three-way tie for fifth place in 2014. Following Mason for 2015 were Liam, Wyatt, Logan and Benjamin.

Guy Beaudoin, Vital Statistics Services Program manager with WDH, said “The number of births in Wyoming continues to grow. Our office recorded 7,715 births to Wyoming resident mothers during 2015, which reflects a slight increase from 7,693 in 2014. Looking back further, we saw 7,541 births in 2010, 7,231 in 2005 and 6,254 in 2000.”

Vital Statistics Services promotes and protects the health of Wyoming residents by serving as the official custodian of all vital records in the state and by disseminating health information in support of health and social planning efforts.  More state statistics and information about the program can be found online at http://www.health.wyo.gov/admin/vitalstatistics/.
