August 10, 2016

SHERIDAN (AP) — A Wyoming judge has set bond at $150,000 for man charged with fatally shooting his wife while their five young children were in the home.

The Sheridan Press reports that the 41-year-old Sheridan man could face 20 years to life in prison if he is convicted of the murder charge.

According to court documents, the man initially told police his wife was shot as the two struggled over a gun Friday evening, but later said he shot her out of fear of her attacking him.

Documents say Sheridan police and medical staff found the wife dead in the basement from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

The couple’s oldest child is 9 years old. All five children are in the custody of the Department of Family Services.
