Agar wins Republican nomination for SD20

August 17, 2016

WORLAND — Grass Creek rancher Wyatt Agar won the Republican nomination for State Senate District 20 by 57 percent Tuesday in three-man race.

Unofficially, Agar received 2,508 total votes in the district than encompasses portions of four counties. Ron Harvey of Worland received 1,327 and fellow Worland resident Bob Bayuk earned 599.

I feel very blessed. I’ve enjoyed a very spirited primary season with Ron (Harvey) and Bob (Bayuk) but I look forward to moving on and facing my Democratic challenger and just offering solutions to the district,” Agar said.

In looking at his campaign and the election, Agar said he feels there was a two-phased issue with voters — one getting out and being among the voters. “But, I also feel that people want to see the next generation taking ownership and getting involved,” he said.

Voters in each precinct in Washakie County selected Agar, who was one of three candidates seeking the Republican nomination for the seat being vacated by Sen. Gerry Geis, who is retiring at the end of the year. Agar received 923 votes overall in Washakie County. Ron Harvey of Worland garnered 636 votes and Worland’s Bob Bayuk received 379.

In Agar’s home county of Hot Springs, he received 867 votes to Harvey’s 410 and Bayuk’s 112.

In Park County, Agar received 154 votes, Harvey 47 and Bayuk 27. In Big Horn County, Agar received 474 votes, Harvey 193 and Bayuk 66.

Senate District 20 also includes a portion of Fremont County, which supported Agar with 90 votes, Harvey with 41 and Bayuk with 15.

Agar will face Democrat Mary Jane Norskog in the Nov. 8 general election. Norskog was unopposed in the primary election Tuesday night.
