RIVERTON - In preparation for defending their 3A state volleyball title the Worland Lady Warriors traveled to Riverton Friday afternoon for the two-day preseason McDonald's Volleyball Invitational.

Facing facing off against other 3A and 4A teams like Jackson, Pinedale, Lander, Powell and Riverton in a best of three with the first two games to 21, no cap and the third game if necessary, to 15 also with no cap. Worland started the two-day Invite strong beating Jackson 20-21, 21-16, 15-12. Next was the host team Riverton who they beat 21-11, 21-16. Then the Lady Warriors capped the night against Powell with another match win 21-12, 19-21, 15-10.

Worland volleyball coach Brittany Miller liked what she saw from her team, "For it being the preseason they responded very well. We used some different rotations and the team did a nice job of working through them. I'm really proud of them," said Miller.

With two games left to play today in the Invite coach Miller is looking for her team to keep building on Friday's wins, "I want to see them come out with great energy," said Miller, "Also I want them to keep building on their team chemistry and getting comfortable with one another out there on the court."

With the Invite being a warmup to the season coach Miller sees where the her team needs to improve but also sees many positives, "It's the preseason, so there are areas we can improve on but I really like how we have multiple hitters out there. Not having to rely on one hitter is going to make us a stronger team," said Miller.

Along with the varsity the Lady Warrior junior varsity team also went through the first day with a 3-0 record. Beating Jackson 15-21, 21-16, 15-11, Riverton 21-16, 21-15 and Powell 18-21, 21-18, 15-9.

Today the Lady Warriors close out the Invite against Lander at 12 p.m. and Pinedale at 2 p.m.
