Winter storm warning issued for Washakie County

WORLAND — A winter storm warning is in effect from 11 pm Thursday to

Midnight tonight for the Big Horn Basin including Worland and Ten Sleep.

The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a winter storm warning for snow, wind and bitter cold wind chills. The winter storm watch issued Wednesday is no longer in effect.

According to the NWS, a winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow, and or blowing snow are expected or occurring. This could make travel very hazardous or impossible. if you must travel keep some food, water, and an extra flashlight in your vehicle in case of an emergency. According to the warning issued, light snow was likely to develop late Thursday night and quickly increase near sunrise today. Periods of moderate snow will occur today and this evening. The snow will be blown about by strong north wind creating bitter cold wind chills of 15 to 30 degrees below zero as temperatures drop through the single digits tonight and then below zero by this evening. The snow will quickly end tonight behind an Arctic front.

Total snowfall expected is five to nine inches with the higher amounts toward Ten Sleep and Big Trails.
