WORLAND – Cloud Peak Middle School students won the Challenge of the Books at the Worland Community Center Complex Wednesday morning, competing against six other area middle schools.

The Challenge of the Books is a Jeopardy-like competition. Before the competition all participating middle school students read and study the same 12 books. During the competition the students as six member teams are asked questions about the books.

Worland Middle School teacher Donna Hunter stated that each round has 24 questions. The questions are sentences, quotes or paraphrases from the books, two questions per book, and the teams must answer with the name of the book and the author.

Eight area middle schools were scheduled to participate but Rocky Mountain and Powell middle schools were unable to attend due to inclement weather and Lovell had to participate via facetime.

The six teams that were able to participate placed as follows:

First — Cloud Peak Middle School

Second — Burlington Middle School

Third — Thermopolis Middle School

Fourth — Worland Middle School

Fifth — Greybull Middle School

Sixth — Lovell Middle School

All students received prizes. Hunter explained that each participating school brought prizes for the students. The winning team received a trophy and first pick of the prizes and then the second place team chose their prizes, then third and so on.

This is the second straight win for Cloud Peak.
