RHS speech takes second; two members earn state titles

BASIN — The eight-member Riverside High School speech and debate team proved it’s about quality not quantity when it came to placing at the State Meet in Green River earlier this month.

As a team, Riverside captured second place (reserve championship) in 1A/2A and boasted state champions in public forum with Alex Rasmussen and Brenna Robertson.

State was in Green River this year.

Christina Kampman was second in poetry and Sabrina Taylor and Skylar Smith paired up in duet to take second in that category in 1A/2A.

“They had a very successful season. I’m extremely proud of all of their accomplishments,” Coach Kaitlyn Miller said.

The team will have a spaghetti dinner and awards banquet at 6:30 p.m. on April 13 at the Basin City Arts Center. The students will perform their state pieces for the community at this time, Miller said.
