Scholars presentation focuses on libraries, cultural gems during National Library Week

MEETEETSE — The Meeteetse Branch Library will sponsor a free presentation by Mary and Richard Maturi Monday at noon at the Meeteetse Senior Center at 1105 Park Ave.

Maturis’ “Cultural Gems: an eclectic look at Unique United States libraries” explores a collection of cultural gem libraries from coast-to-coast. The Maturis will use visual aids to illustrate the rich diversity of Americas libraries while exploring the humanities focus on a broad panorama of library architecture, unique building re-purposing and the various ways communities funded their libraries.


The Maturis visited and researched libraries across the United States for over a year. Richard Maturi is a published author of more than a score of books, some in collaboration with his wife Mary and more than 1,000 articles and 21 books. He is a member of the Denver Press Club and he and his wife live in the Laramie Range of the Wyoming Rockies.


“Cultural Gems: an eclectic look at Unique United States libraries” is presented by the Wyoming Humanities Council as part of its ThinkWY Road Scholars Tours program. The Wyoming Humanities Council provides public humanities-based programs in partnership with local organizations and is

funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities with additional support from private donors and the Wyoming Legislature.

April 9 – 15 is National Library week and is a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support. From free access to books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining, libraries offer opportunity to all.
