June 28, 2017

LARAMIE — Washakie County 4-H was in Laramie at the University of Wyoming last week participating in the 2017 Showcase Showdown event.

The event drew over 300 4-Hers from across Wyoming to participate in state contests including, livestock skill-a-thon, dog skill-a-thon, rocketry, robotics, table setting, cake decorating, horse judging, hippology, produce judging, food cook-off and presentations, plus educational workshops, dances and lots of fun, according to Washakie County 4-H Educator Amber Armajo.

The youth from Washakie County participated in the livestock skill-a-thon and dog skill-a-thon.

Rachel Drake was third overall in the senior division for the dog skill-a-thon and Ashley Schrage was eighth overall.

Armajo said the objective of the livestock skill-a-thon is to educate and encourage youth in the areas of science, engineering and technology, enhancing their understanding and abilities as it relates to livestock and the livestock industry and to provide youth with the opportunity to blend knowledge and skills acquired in livestock judging, demonstrations, care and exhibition of animals into one activity.

The dog skill-a-thon is an opportunity for youth interested in dogs to compete using knowledge gained in the 4-H Dog Project.
