School board approves server bid, hires bus drivers

WORLAND — In an abbreviated special meeting, the Washakie County School District No. 1 Board of Trustees approved a bid for new network servers and approved three new bus drivers.

Meeting at the Washakie County Fairgrounds during the fair Friday, the board approve a bid from Pine Cove for new network servers with a five-year warranty for $117,499.04. Business Manager Jack Stott said, $75,000 would come from the technology budget with the rest from capital projects and curriculum.

Technology Director Kathy Wise said, “These are quite a step up and better than what we have now.”

The board hired Scott Gaulke as a bus driver and Mark Whitlock and Antonio Moreno as bus drivers contingent up on finalizing their licenses.

Superintendent David Nicholas reported that new staff will report Aug. 9, the main opening for staff will be Aug. 14.

Classes begin Thursday, Aug. 17. Orientation for freshmen and sixth graders is Aug. 16.

He also said during an administrators meeting earlier Friday, they were discussing the shuttling of students from the different elementary students. Students can walk to their neighborhood elementary school and catch the bus to their grade-level school.

It was suggested to have some adults on the buses to make sure students get on the correct buses. He said they also suggested having signs for the first few weeks to help direct students to the appropriate bus as the district begins the first year with the grade-level schools.
