Council for the Bighorn Range holding workshops next week

September 30, 2017

WORLAND - The Council for the Bighorn Range is holding four workshops next week to provide information on the evolving public lands transfer and management efforts from Wyoming to Washington. Many ongoing initiatives, both through legislation and the administration, will have impacts on access, public involvement, wildlife habitat management, recreation, wilderness management, and law enforcement on public lands.

The workshops are free and open to the public and will be held in Greybull, Worland, Sheridan and Buffalo.

The Council for the Bighorn Range (CBR) works to educate and provide information for the protection and conservation of the public lands in the Big Horn Mountains region. CBR is a grass-roots non-profit 501(c)(3)-eligible conservation organization with membership drawn from the communities within the Big Horn Mountains region and including citizens who have an active interest in the region, its environment, and its conservation.

The workshops will include information on current public land initiatives before the Wyoming Legislature’s joint interim committees for the 2018 budget session, and how citizens can be heard and be effective in the community on public lands issues.

Specifically, Rob Davidson, director of CBR, will be leading a discussion on the Legislature’s collaboration oversight committee, the state management of public lands, and the state management of mineral resources.

“This legislation is still in the works, so we will have what’s a work in progress to discuss,” said Davidson. “But we are talking about things like adding roads to wilderness areas, and how the state will choose to control public land at local levels.”

The workshops will be held Tuesday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Greybull Public Library, Wednesday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Worland Community Center Complex, Monday, Oct. 9, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Fulmar Pubic Library in Sheridan, and Wednesday, Oct. 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at the Johnson County Public Library in Buffalo.

Earlier, the CBR held information sessions and workshops on state budget requirements and the wolverine protection program.
