Logging operations at Cutler Hill Nordic Trails underway

November 17, 2017

SHERIDAN – Over the past couple years, you may have noticed orange and blue painted trees near the Cutler Hill Nordic trails. This area is part of the Forest Service’s Johnson Creek Timber Sale.

Temporary road construction work for the timber sale began in October. Recently, logging crews started felling operations. Crews began hauling logs off of the Johnson Creek Road, (FSR) 194, within the Cutler Nordic ski boundary this week. Logging operations will end in this area by December 15th to allow public use of the Nordic ski trails.

Logging operations will continue this winter on the east side of Highway 14, off of the Tie Creek Road, FSR 152412, and Tie Creek Spur, FSR 152413. Logging crews are planning to return to the west side of the highway in July of 2018, and are planning to complete the timber sale by November 2018.

This timber sale was designed to enhance overall forest health and diversity within the unit. The final project will create new ski trails and increase viewsheds. We ask that you have patience with us as work is completed.
